But the biggest difference one recognizes has to be in its night life and parties.

Named after the Goddess Morzai, the beach has an interesting story behind its name. According to the legend, the goddess arrived to this place on her peacock, known as Mohor in the local language, due to which, the place came to be known as Mhor-jim and eventually, as Morjim. The other part of the story says that the local fishermen here fished out the goddess from the sea.

How to Reach

Morjim beach is located in North Goa, next to the Ashwem beach and the Chapora River. It is located around 28 kms from the capital city of Panaji and approximately 15 kms away from Baga Beach. One of the quieter beaches of Goa, it stretches for over 3 kms along the Arabian Sea. One can hire a moped or car to travel locally here on a day-to-day basis.

The nearest airport to Morjim is the Dabolim Airport, which is around 51 kms away. The international tourists reach here via Vasco Da Gama international airport


Morjim beach is a forty minute drive away from Panaji. One can hire the pre-paid taxi service available or the local taxi to reach here. The beach itself is well connected with the other cities of Goa and regular bus services are also available.


The nearest railway station to Morjim beach is Thivim Railway station, just 2 kms away. Early trains are also available from Margao railway junction, starting from 6AM onwards.

Things to do

Unlike the other busy beaches in Goa, Morjim is more famous for its calm and quietness. The beach is a nesting ground for the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, and one can expect to see these beautiful creatures, more towards the southern part of the beach. The government is making all efforts to preserve Morjim’s natural habitat and to maintain its tourism in a healthy manner.
