Arambol – Hippie at Heart
Located between the Querim beach in the north and the Morjim beach on the south, lies one of the most serene and relatively undisturbed beaches of Goa – the Arambol beach. As the hippies arrived in Goa, in the 1960s, most of them settled down at Calangute. But a few took further north in search of a more pristine, greener part of Goa and found their liking in Arambol. The beach, even today, has a distinct bohemian feel to it; a remembrance of its olden days.
Arambol is one of the greenest and cleanest beaches in North Goa. Its 16 km long shoreline is lined with palm trees and hills. Towards the northern part of the beach, lie a thick forest and Sweet-water lake. According to a legend, there is a distinct banyan tree amidst the forest, which is famous for being the place where the famous music band, the Beatles, had meditated. Adjoining the Banyan tree, one can see a stone sculpture, created by Jacek Tylicki, an American conceptual and land artist, called as the Money Stone. Encrypted on the stone are words, “Give if you can, take if you have to”.
